The Manager, Corporate Business Continuity leads the development and management of the business continuity and disaster recovery programs for the organization. As the head of these functions for the corporation, the Manager works closely with management, up to the most senior level, to develop BC strategies in line with policies and standards, and to implement business continuity and disaster recovery structure and processes.
JOB DUTIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Directs and assumes responsibility for the maintenance and effectiveness of the organization’s business continuity and disaster recovery planning strategy and program. This includes all entities within the holding company..
• Leads, coaches and provides direction to a team of business continuity professionals. Ensures that the team is cohesive and aligned towards the same goals.
• Annually defines and prioritizes, through business impact assessments, all key business functions and systems / applications which are determined to be critical to achieve corporate objectives and which reflect the present operational environment. Applies an enterprise-wide BCM standardized methodology to enable mitigation of operational risks and the recovery of critical business processes at time of an incident. Identifies an acceptable recovery time objective for all functions. Ensures that appropriate plans and resource materials are created, communicated, maintained and updated that outline operating procedures to be used in response to disasters or emergencies and in recovery from these events.
• Responsible for the design and administration of an awareness and preparedness training program for the purpose of educating employees on how to effectively respond to major emergencies and disasters.
• Oversees on-site capability assessments to ensure the plan meets objectives and to validate preparedness. Re-evaluates the contingency program based on the results of these exercises / tests and updates accordingly.
• Keeps informed of federal, state, and local regulations affecting emergency plans and ensures that plans adhere to these regulations.
• Supports the planning, preparation, and coordination of Internal Audit and other regulatory compliance related activities.
• Maintains performance measurement and capability dashboards for executive management. As required, meets with executive management to present and discuss methodologies, capability status and strategies for enterprise contingency planning.
• Partners with other relevant functions and other teams within the organization to coordinate and ensure consistency across sites and lines for disaster recovery planning efforts.
• Builds relationships and shares knowledge and best practices with external and affiliate BCM professionals. Develops and maintains liaisons with municipalities, county departments, and similar entities to facilitate plan development, communications and response effort coordination.
• After and if appropriate during an event, prepares situation status reports that describe response and recovery efforts, needs, and preliminary damage assessments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 10 years of increasingly responsible corporate business experience managing a business contingency and disaster recovery program. Minimum 5 years of experience as the top functional BC/DR leader for a (medium-large or division of a large) transaction-based company. Multiple corporate location experience is required
• Demonstrated ability to build and manage a competent and collaborative team. Minimum 5 years experience and strong demonstrated ability to skillfully hire, develop, lead, motivate, and coach a cross-section of BC/ DR professionals.
• Demonstrated knowledge of financial agency rules, regulations and guidelines for security and business continuity planning and implementation.
• Possesses exceptional knowledge of contingency planning initiatives and practices.
• Demonstrated ability to influence individuals, lead teams and work effectively with all personnel from end users to executive management.
• Must be expert on contingency planning strategies, emergency management and IT disaster recovery (DR) guidance and must be able to clearly demonstrate use of same on past projects.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills. Track record of delivering status updates and explaining strategy to executive leaders.
• Exceptional project/program management experience.
• Strong influencing skills. Ability to manage 'dotted line' business relationships with effectiveness, developing tasks and managing resources to achieve target dates and business goals.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, or a related field, required.
• One or several of the following certifications: CBCP, MBCP, MBCI, FBCI and PMP, required.
• Proven previous experience recovering a company from a major disaster, preferred.
