The University of Missouri College of Engineering
The University of Missouri College of Engineering is renowned for its work in a wide array of computing-based fields, and the Executive Women’s Forum (EWF) took notice. That’s why the two entities have teamed up for a fellowship for a female doctoral student, seeking the next engineering leader in the world of computer science.
The EWF is committed to the advancement of women in the fields of information security and information technology risk management and privacy. EWF’s belief in the world-class abilities and resources of the MU College of Engineering led it to name a full tuition Ph.D. fellowship for a female doctoral student in MU’s Computer Science Department for a five-year period. The first recipient will come from the crop of female students starting their doctoral program in Fall 2017.
As part of the fellowship, the EWF will arrange a mentorship between the selected student and an EWF participant in the upper levels of industry.
The MU College of Engineering was an excellent match for EWF because of an active research portfolio and growing resources in computer science-related areas, such as big data analytics, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics and computational biology, biological and biomedical image analysis, graphics, information management systems, cloud computing, mobile computing, multimedia, cybersecurity, high-performance computing, networking and computer science foundations. Ongoing research projects are currently funded by institutions such as the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, Department of Energy and Department of Defense. Additionally, the department has industry partnerships with companies such as Cerner, Raytheon and Monsanto.
World-class faculty in the MU Computer Science Department lead a robust interdisciplinary program, including collaborations in the fields of medicine, agriculture, journalism and education. Students trained in computer science at Mizzou go on to become leaders in their fields thanks to the interdisciplinary excellence in the College of Engineering.
